High shore electricity: The use of high voltage shore power systems can shut down the ship's diesel generators, thereby reducing noise and emissions. Since 2012, ShorePower's international standards have been in place to ensure global compatibility between ports and vessels. EU Directive 2014/94/EU on the deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure requires European ports to progressively equip berths with coastal power connectivity technology, with all ports, with certain exceptions, to be coastal power ready by 2025.
